Traditional Art / Paintings / Still Life

Finally, something recent. This was done at the end of my sophmore year (probably April 2004). It got really boring after a while since you know...it's just apples and a pear X_x; But I like how it came out afterwards. This was my first oil painting ever.

I never thought I could get so enthralled over fruit, lol. This is fantastic, the colouring is spot on for ever fruit right down to the flicks of green and yellow on the apple but what stands out to me the most is the highlighting and shadows. Very well done.

(notice: I am a painting-amateur)

I find this work absolutely well done. First thing I noticed was the perfect light effect and flexures on serviette (granted that it is shiny). The vision of pear is excellent: soft and smooth shading makes it very realistic. Apples are also well done, but I think that some too strongly markes vertical lines could make it a little unnatural. But I know it is probably because of a soft of apples You pictured. One negative notice: is it a wood behing fruit ? Whatever it is, it could look more detailed, I think.

Thanks for the nice comment ^_^ And yes, that's supposed to be wood in the background...I'm kind of unhappy with it because I feel the same way you do. This was done for my painting class, and I had to get it in for the due date, so I only had about an hour left to really work on that little area. I probably should have started it sooner, but I was so focused on the fruit and the cloth that I kind of got lost in it. On the next one I'll try to spend as much time on every part
